How come Jesus wasn’t worried?!

If anyone had stuff to worry about in the future, it was Jesus. He knew he was destined to suffer crucifixion! It’s evident in his historical biographies that this was something on his mind but that he also manages to practice what he preaches [another mantra of Kierkegaard]. For a person in his situation Jesus had it all together. He didn’t react inappropriately to people but was really present with, and listened to people that society didn’t usually notice, let alone listen to. He behaved like a person who knew what he was talking about when he said God doesn’t want us to worry. According to his biographies [there are four of them written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John] he also knew that his death was going to provide for the beginning of a life without any worries at all for not only him, but for all who walk his talk.

Jesus’ core reality was based on knowing the Creator God as the Father who wants to give good gifts to his children. He said that’s what God invites us to step into. It means becoming like a child in that we give up trying to control our lives [and our FOMO – Fear Of Missing Out] and trusting that He will provide for everything we need to live our best lives. It doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t have a superannuation fund but it does mean there are better priorities than worrying about it all. Now obviously we’re not going to be able to trust a higher being that we don’t know much about or possibly believe in much.. or if we are then that’s going to be quite a journey. But that’s not to say it isn’t worth a try. What do we have to lose?

For those of you who are not sure where to start with this journey and would like to have your questions about Jesus answered you might be interested in checking out an Alpha series helpful. What is Alpha? It’s generally weekly get togethers held over about 10 weeks  – held in a pub or other public place where you can bring your questions and chat with others over food, watch a few vids, listen to others [this is a place where everyone should be respected and heard] and hopefully make some awesome friends also.

Right now with the corona restrictions it’s not possible for us to meet at the pub but you can join us [or an alpha run in your area] in weekly online [zoom] sessions!

If this is something you’d like to check out please fill out this expressions of interest form

For those of you who are already on this journey you might consider inviting an interested friend to join you for online Alpha? If you like reading and you can cope with the writing style of the nineteenth century you might find, like I did, Abide in Christ by Andrew Murray the bombdiggity.
